Swapping out your personal care products can be tough after using the same well known products for so long. The problem is that most of the products you are using, are likely filled with endocrine disruptors, and lots of other junk that just isn’t good for your health.
my best advice is to swap things out as you run out of them. That way you don’t have a huge up front cost. It can be very intimidating, especially because cleaner or Non-toxic products are typically more expensive. And who wants to spend the extra money when you’re not sure if you’ll even like it?
I’ve been on this journey for almost three year now, and have tried many different products. I would not say all the products I use are perfect, but I am also on a budget. I do the best I can with where we are right now.
so here is a list of the products I have found work best for me, and my budget!
shampoo + conditioner: Acure has worked well for me and my hair type, and is decently priced. I’ve tried Under Luna also, but it got too expensive for me, and wasn’t the greatest on my oily hair.
hairspray: I love my innersense hairspray! The price point is a little bit higher, but it lasts me Atleast 6 months, so it is worth it. It smells great, and has a good hold without making your hair feel crispy.
makeup: for my face, I use araza powder foundation. It covers well for a powder, and keeps my face from getting oily.
for mascara I tend to go with Pacifica or honest because I haven’t found another cleaner one I like yet. And for my eye brow pencil, I love the Ilia one. It has a blender brush on the opposite end as the twist up pencil. It stays on great, and looks natural.
toothpaste: currently we are using superteeth. We have also used Boka in the past. We try to avoid flouride, so these are both good options.
face wash: I have used aleavia for almost three years. I just use the body wash for my face and sometimes body. It has worked great with my skin. They do also have a face specific wash.
body wash: my whole family uses the everyone 3-in-1 for body wash. My husband also uses it as his shampoo. It has a great price point.
lotion: I use smear tallow clean whip for my face, and just about everything. It works on sunburns and rashes even.
deodorant: this is a tough one for me. With hormones from being pregnant and breastfeeding, I feel like nothing works great and I have to switch after every tube. Right now I have humble. My last one was real purity. My husband and I will also do an armpit detox every few months with bentonite clay and apple cider vinegar, which really helps.
dry shampoo: my absolute favorite dry shampoo is Acure. It works great, and lasts such a long time. It doesn’t make your hair feel heavy, and once you rub it in, it doesn’t have that powdery look.
like I said, swap things as you run out. I know it can be hard and expensive, so I hope this list helps!
